My 3rd child was born in July and she just turned 2. I wanted to have a birthday party that would also be exciting for her 4 and 6 year old siblings. All of our guests were between the ages of 2-6 and they all had a great time.
First, for the cake I used an idea from Parent’s magazine. It came out beautifully. By far the best cake I ever made, even topping the princess castle I had made my 4 year old and the star wars Lego cake I made my son. It was the ocean with an island.
Then came the decorations, all from the Dollar Store. I bought a bunch of inflatable palm trees, monkeys, birds, flamingo’s, beach balls, etc. I also bought Hawaiian style window decals to decorate the outside windows, fake tiki’s, etc. I set up our banzai water-slide pool for the water aspect and filled our sandbox with plenty of shovels, buckets, etc for the “beach.”
I bought a Disney CD with a bunch of child-friendly “summery” music for the background.
For the food and drinks I made lemonade and iced tea, macaroni salad, fruit salad, and hot dogs. I served everything with cups with palm tree straws, Hawaiian flower plates, etc.
