Coolest Star Wars Birthday Party Ideas

Our daughter was about 2.5 years old when my husband started watching Star Wars with her, thus began her obsession with Star Wars and the many things that come along with that.

Her 4th Birthday was coming up fast, and when I asked her what she wanted, I knew the answer before she even told me. As she started to monologue the beginning of Star Wars Episode 2, I knew. That being said, I have never seen an entire Star Wars movie. We did a joint party with a friend of hers, since they were born two days apart, and they are huge Star Wars fans so it worked out well.

Invitation:

I started with the invitations, I created an opening scroll similar to the open scroll in Star Wars. I used iMovie to set the tone of the party, we wrote the opening scroll and then added music to the background. We posted to YouTube and emailed the link to her friends.

Decorations:

This was little more difficult then I realized it would be, we rented a room in our building and only had an hour to decorate. We decided to divide the large room into sections, one for the adults, one for the food, one for each of the Jedi skills, and one for the presents.

First we hung black fringe curtains from the doors and added some stars, and turned on a strobe light toward the door. Greeting guests at the front was a robotic R2D2 that we created. Also used were character wall clings that I got on clearance. We covered most of the windows with a black and star plastic wall cover. And used the skills as there own decorations.

R2D2 was made out of a cement tube, a large plastic bowl, guttering and a remote control truck that was painted by my daughter and I.

Jedi Skills Star Wars Birthday Activities

Once the guest came in there was a Jedi check in, which the child were issued a Jedi Robe and Light saber. If they didn’t come dressed as their favorite character, surprisingly most did come dressed up, even the adults.

I copied and pasted the trial signs onto poster board and placed them around the room. R2D2 lead the way to each trial.

Trial of Skill… Obstacle Course: Our Obstacle course was planned for the ages we had coming, younger 3s to older 5s. The course tested agility, speed and accuracy.

We placed balloons for the to weave in and out of, then a slide, followed by over the humps and under the stars, ending with a practice shot at a storm trooper (which was made from a boxing bag, that we took a sticker paper to print the face and bull’s-eye).

Trial of Courage… Rescue Princess Leia: We took a balloon drop, typically used for New Year’s and placed red, black and silver balloons that were blow up by me the day of the party. One which had a plastic Princess Leia hidden inside. Hung it up on the wall and aloud the kids to pop the balloons in order to save Princess Leia.

Trial of Spirits… Choosing your Path: This game didn’t work as well as we had hoped, I think the kids were a little to young to understand. Our idea was to take to “Good” space crafts and Darkside spacecrafts and play the game four corners. The basic idea is that the four corners of the room belong to a sign or number, and the children gather in the middle, while the music plays they each chose a corner, the “Jedi Master” (we hired one of our babysitters to help, and placed her in a Jedi Master t-shirt) in the middle turned and stopped on a corner. Each time the kids were out. You continue until one was left.

Trial of Flesh To Overcome Great Hardship or Pain: We did tattoos and face painting of battle wounds and scars. I took a class in college that was based on forensic wound ID, which taught me how to do graphic looking wounds. So I created a few before the party with Halloween makeup and stage makeup. The boys loved this the best, they thought the “battle” wounds were the best part.

Trial of Insight… Looking Beyond the Obvious: We decided that this was the last Trial so it should be the calming before they kids left. We just got the scratch off pages, the black ones with the rainbow colors below. Most of the kids tried to draw spaceships and other Star Wars things, character, light sabers, etc.

We also had a pinata shaped like Darth Vader’s head. While the kids were trying to “beat” Darth Vader, we had a real Darth Vader sneak in behind them, and the fight to rid Darth Vader from the party began.

All of the Jedis tried to “save” the birthday girl and boy from Darth Vader.

Food and Cake:

The food was simple sub-sandwiches, fruit and veggie platters, and chips and dip. We tried to keep the food simple to not take away from the Center piece, which was this Jabba the Hutt cake –

Also, to keep the presents easily divided (since the party was for two kids) we placed picture boards of each kid dressed in their Star Wars character on the pool table, and their presents were put next to the picture.

Party Favors:

The kids all left with, Jedi robes, light sabers, and goodie bags. Along with a certificate.

Thank You:

At the end of the party as the guest were leaving, we made sure to get a picture with either the R2D2 or Darth Vader. I then again made a video for the families and friends to view. We also sent a copy of each photo to the kids.
