Coolest Space Child Party Games

Here’s an awesome collection of Space child party games, perfect for throwing the coolest ever Space theme party.

Moon Rock Hunt

Take all those moon rocks the kids prepared during the icebreaker activities and hide them around the house and in the yard. Now get them to wear the space pack and start floating around in search of the moon rocks. Each kid can take some home, which parents tell me are treasured items!! If you didn’t do the moon rock activity as an icebreaker, take small space theme gifts, wrap them in foil and hide them around the house and yard. The kids will love the excitement of opening their rocks and finding treasures!

Hanging Star

Pair up the kids. Give them a star-shaped cookie on a string and have one of them tie it around their waist so it reaches around the knees. Have their counterpart lie face up just beneath the hanging donut. Now, with only crouching and stretching (and no hands allowed) lets see who finishes the star cookie first.

Dehydrated Food and Freeze-Dried Ice Cream

This is always an awesome space theme birthday party activity! You can all sit together and sample different kinds of space foods. (The faces they make are hilarious!).

Grab a Planet

(Same as the game Musical Chairs) Take 8 planets (small balls painted like each planet) and place them on the floor inside a Hula-Hoop. Now start the music (must be 9 or more players) and let the kids run around the Hula-Hoop. When the music stops, each child must try to grab a planet, the ones that didn’t grab a planet are out. For the next round, remove a planet from the Hula-Hoop and repeat the music again and again till one person is left (the winner)!

Hot Moon

Everyone sits in a circle and passes the hot moon rock from one person to the next (while music is playing). Someone calls time or stops the music and the person left holding the moon rock is out. Continue until there is only one person left. You can use one of those therapeutic pillows that you warm up in the microwave, roll it into a ball and put a small blanket to wrap it up, that way it will really be a hot moon rock (not too hot of course).

Flying Saucer

This is a great space party activity if you’ve got a big yard or are throwing the party at a nearby park. Use the Frisbees that the kids prepared during the icebreaker activities. Separate into two teams and choose from a variety of the classic ball games, like touch Frisbee football, Frisbee tag, etc. If they wear their Space Packs it’s even more fun.

Weightlessness Race

In this game, the player needs to transfer as many cotton balls from one bowl to another using only a spoon. The catch? They’ll be blindfolded so they won’t have any idea how many cotton balls they’ve scooped up. You’ll need to prepare bowls, cotton balls, blindfolds, and spoons. This game works best when you play two players at a time. Blindfold the players and give each a spoon. Place two bowls in front of each player, one of which has 20 cotton balls. The other bowl is empty. Once you say “GO!”, each player must transfer as many cotton balls from one bowl to the other in 30 seconds. The trick is that they are so light you can’t really feel them on the spoon and this makes it hard. The winner is the player who transfers the most.

Black Hole Child Party Games

Take a large piece of cardboard and spray paint it black. Then cut out a 16-inch diameter hole. With white paint decorate around the hole in a galactic design (to look like white stars in the black hole). Then let kids try and throw frisbee-like throwing discs (or the flying saucers made during the ice-breaker activities). It could be cool to find glow-in-the-dark Frisbees (or wrap the Frisbees with glow-in-the-dark paper or fabric). Add glow-in-the-dark light sticks around the hole and have the kids try throwing their glow-in-the-dark Frisbees into the black hole.

Moon Rock

This game is just like the “Egg on spoon race” but instead have rocks (moon rocks!!). You divide the whole group into two teams, have each team stand in a line. Give the first person of each team a spoon and a rock. On the mark of “Go” the first kids of each line put the rock on the spoon, while they hold the handle of the spoon in their mouths, they then as quickly as they can run to a designated area, make a u-turn and go back to the team. They then give the spoon and rock to the next player. The first team to have all of their teammates have a turn is the winning team.
